Miss Cayce's Recipe for Christmas Tree Trimming

Miss Cayce's Recipe for Christmas Tree Trimming

Gorgeous Christmas trees do not just happen, they take planning, the right ingredients and our tried and true step by step instructions that anyone can follow.

Miss Cayce's Traditions Tree

Years ago, Kathy and I created a Recipe for Tree Trimming that made decorating your Christmas Tree easy. We figured out a few Key Ingredients that every tree needs, so it is time to pop out your Christmas Tree (this is acceptable because it is Christmas in July) and start practicing using our tips.

For this week's blog, we are participating in a Christmas in July blog hop, so if you cannot get enough Christmas, be sure to check out the other blogs. (Blogs are listed at the bottom).

Before we begin decorating, there are a few things you need to do.

1. Plan your decorating ingredients around a theme or color scheme. Determine the ornaments you plan to use. Here are a few themes we have created in the store.

2. Select a location for your tree, measure floor space and ceiling height. Locate an electrical outlet.

The Christmas Tree is your largest Christmas decoration and the centerpiece in most homes and/or businesses. Since Christmas trees come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors, you are able to pick a tree that will fix your home or business perfectly. From pencil thin to fluffy fat, snow-flocked, snow-dusted, green, metallic, hot pink, you name it. The choices in faux trees are unlimited and no watering is required. Best part, most faux trees are pre-lit, and easy to assemble.

After many years of decorating hundreds of trees, we noticed that we were using a system in our decorating. We have tweaked and simplified the step by step instructions so you can follow along and become a professional Christmas Tree Decorator too.

Now you are ready to decorate your tree, and all it takes is 3 key ingredients - Ribbon, balls, and florals.

Step 1: Ribbon

Place your bows in a diamond pattern starting from the top of the tree and work your way down. Secure the bows to the tree with wire.

Step 2: Balls

Hang the balls in the middle of the diamond pattern created by the bows. Tuck into the branches of the tree to create depth and background. Place larger balls near the bottom of the tree, then as you move up the tree use smaller balls, placing the smallest at the top.

We love using mat gold balls in 3 sizes, 8", 6" and 4". The gold color is super versatile in decorating with different styles and color combos.

Step 3: Florals

The next ingredient to season your theme or color scheme is florals. Secure florals to the tree branches to add focal points & filler in available spots. For this tree we used red poinsettia picks.

Step 4: Ornaments

Organize your ornaments according to size and style. Hang your largest ornaments first then go back and hang your smaller ornaments. Hanging in this order ensures that all ornaments will be visible on your tree. Distribute ornament collections over the entire tree for balance, placing special ones at eye level.
